Hello all. I hope everyone had a good turkey day and is getting ready for x-mas! There is alot of talk going on about lake winnipesaukee. The fishery is way down in quality and quantity. We need to think about what is going to happen to the lake if we dont do something now! If nothing is done our kids and grandkids will never get to have the same experience that most of you have. I am going to do my part to help by limiting the days fished on the lake, pushing saltwater trips and also limiting the amount of rods and fish boated and stressing catch and release even more than i already do. All my clients know that i have very strict rules and take all precautions when a fish is in the net or boat. Roof Rafta charters takes pride in everything we do and saving this lake is one of the biggest! This doesnt mean i am not fishing the lake or you wont have the best NH Sportfishing experience, just that small changes can make a big difference. I believe that i am the only charter boat captain on the lake that will make and take the most extreme sacrifices to save our lake. You can all help, Please call or email with any and all questions and also ideas that you think will help that i can bring to the table for fish and game to review. Thank you and happy holidays, Captain Pat |

When i say the salmon are running, i dont mean to the boat! Fished today with Steve, Cyndi(the camera crew), dylan(master angler), and jordan(master angler in training). Left WAM at 5:30 am and headed out to the supposed to be hot spot. Got lines in the water with lots of help from dylan and jordan as the stamd in capt. steve steered the boat and cyndi was hard at work capturing every moment on film. Things started slow, not positive but i would say the first hook-up wasn't until around 7am. That was tough but it also gave me time te get the anglers ready for the first big fight, answering all the questions and teaching them how to run the equipment. They got it as they both caught several lakers and we did manage to pick up 1 salmon. The whole lake was pretty quiet tody. At 8:45 we picked up and headed to the dock. Believe it or not Dylan and Jordfan had to get back for soccer game. Ya they are going to be pro athletes and anglers!!! Thanks for a great time and crew!!! Cant wait til next year!! | slow salmon bite Friday, September 11, 2009
Hit the water today with Mike, Nate and zack. headed to black point which is my favorite place to be this time of year. The day started slow and chilly! First fish on around 7am with a small salmon around 2.5lbs, from there we boated a few lakers and 1 rainbow. There were no big fish caught today. The bait was scatterd around and thats where the fish were aswell......everywhere and very picky on what they ate!! From what we heard on the VHF radio it was really slow everywhere today. Like they said a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work!!! Captain Pat |
| winni time Saturday, September 05, 2009
left the dock at WAM at 6am this morning with marissa(my sister), jenn, dinardo, and dusty for some catch and release. As soon as the lines were in the rods started popping! had one take it out of my hand as i was setting the downrigger! Had a blast with these guys and i would have to say that they had fun catching some quality fish and even a few acrobats in the water today. fun to have them jumping all over until they throw the hook as this group found out a few times! Had a great day and ended the trip early in the am for breakfast. ended the trip with 9 salmon, 3 rainbows and 4 lakers. The largest laker pushing 5lbs and salmon tipping the scale at 4.6lbs!!! Awesome guys and love you sis!!! Captain Pat |

On the water at 6am today for the final try. Tried a few thing that we learned yesterday from Captain Scott and things seemed to turn around. Boated the first king at 8am weighingg in at 25lbs, next was 9:20am weighing in at 18lbs...... things are lookin up now!! Didnt fire another rod until noon, fought the fish for a few min then pulled the hook when the fish did a "switchback". Next fire was at 5:10pm when we landed a 22lb king. after that bthere was nothing until charles rod fired right at dark and we landed a snook or something, we dont know what it was but we are looking into it. Had a blast and definitely learned a few things. there is no doubt i will be back there next year!! Headed home first thing in the am. Thanks again Charles for a great experience!!! Capt. Pat |
| somethin has to give!! Wednesday, September 02, 2009
Hit the water at 5:30 this am after going to the tackle shop and finally getting some info from a captain. He told us to forget the bait(which we practically ran all day yesterday) and run flies, a blue green color seems to be working the best for him. lines were in the water around 6am. we were able to round up a fly that matched the description somewhat and threw that one in and a white fly aswell. at 8:15am the "hammer fly" fired and we ended up boating a 24lb 38" king salmon!! Man we were happy!!!!! Fished til 1pm then decided to head back to the dock for lunch and head to a different tackle shop to find more flies. who would have thought that 1 was fish would do so much to a couple of guys on a boat. we were like 2 kids in the candy store, smiles from ear to ear!!! Captian Pat |
| second legg of day 3 Wednesday, September 02, 2009
left the dock at 3:30pm for the evening run. fished new flies and flashers that we purchesed and stil nothing until 5:30pm when again the "Hammer Fly" hooked up again! This time it was a 26lb 37" king salmon. Again we tried everything but they just wouldn't bit e what we had down there. Headed back to the dock at 7:45pm and met captain Scott of Pole Position Charters. He asked how we did and we told him and thats when i said we only have one more day to get some fish on this boat and is there any info that you could give us that would help! Well let me tell you that he did even better than that!! He took me to his boat and showed me what to use, how fast, what depths and even where to go in the am!!! What a great guy willing to help out a couple of anglers from out of state!! The icing on the cake was when he searched his boat for about 5 min looking for a fly that he was going to give me but he didn't have any more. What a bummer! But wait! He took this fly that had been working really well for him off of his rod and gave it to me!!! Ya i know can you believe that!!! We will see if we can do better tommorow! If any of you need a charter on Lake "O" make sure you look this guy up!!! Capt. Pat |
| Lake "O" Day 2 Tuesday, September 01, 2009
Hit the water today at 6:30 am today as it was a slow star getting bait and ice in the am as the tackle shop at the marina was busy. We tried to get some info from the charter captains but they weren't sayin much! Trolled the trench til around noon or so with no rods fired!!! AAAAHHHHHH we were a little frustrated at this time so we made a move over to the mouth of the Salmon River were charlie had good luck in the past. We picked up and made the 15mile cruise over to the "secret spot" to try our luck there. Luckily we had good weather and 1-3' seas we were able to make the run. We trolled here til 6pm and no fish, had 2 rods fire but nobody was home. There was alot of tention on the boat and we were ready for diner and bed! AAAAAUUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Captain Pat (there was alot of empty bud light cans in the trash that nite!!) |
| The warm up Monday, August 31, 2009
got to henderson harbor today on lake ontario with capt. Charlie aboard the "charlies charters". We stayed at henchen marina in a cabin right on the water with the boat only 20' away. We arrived there around 11am after going grocery shopping and get all the last minute stuff at the tackle shop. After we were settled in and the boat was in the water ready to go we headed out to break the ice around 3 or so. Charlie took us right out to the trench and we got set right up. Charlie started out the evening with bait and i chose to go with a white pearl fly. We trolled the trench til 4:30 and finnaly a rod went off and the line was screaming out! Charlie grabbed his rod and fought the fish for about 10 min until i netted the fish and the fight was over. It was an 18lb king salmon! The fish was more than cooperative for a photo shoot the ready to hit the water and head back for next year. That was the only rod to fire today but it was enough to get us pumped for tuesday! got back to the dock for food and a couple of beers at 6:30, early to bed for the big day tommorow!! Captain Pat |
| Late season stripers Friday, August 28, 2009
Hit the salt today with Jim(Pick), Nick(Red), bob(Viagra), and Mark(vodka). Left the dock in salisbury at 6:30 am and headed to the Isles to catch the macks. Pounded our way out in 3-5' seas with the occasional 6-8'. When we got there we dropped hook by the light house put the chum in the water and the action started. The pollacks were surrounding the boat almost thick enough to walk on but we were after the mackerel. the macks were just below the pollacks and it took no time to fill the livewell with over 300 livies to catch the big boys!! By the time we headed back to the river the seas had layed down a little and made for a decent ride back. The fishing in the river started slow but slowly picked up. Only 2 keepers were caught today but we had plenty of fun catching around 20 schoolies and loosing many more. The blues were in and out stealing our bait all day. It was a great trip with a good group of roofers. We didn't talk business to much, its all about fishing!!! Tight Lines, And Screaming Reels!! Captain Pat |
| Thanks Bill!!! Friday, August 21, 2009
Due to hurricane bill i have resheduled all trips for this week due nto 15-20ft seas on the big pond........Thanks Bill!!!! |
| Hazy...Hott... and Fishy???? Tuesday, August 18, 2009
Picked up Lou and Matt at the meredith town docks bright and early this am after hitting two bats on the way there and spending 15min trying to get one out of the cabin!!! Again sorry I was 5min late, it was the bats fault!!! Anywho... These guys were ready and serious about there fishing on winni today, Matt made the call and decided to be anglers and let everything go that they caught. Lines in by 5:40 at the secret spot, dont tell anyone matt I'm counting on you bud! Fish on by 5:55! These guys were ready for everything that the lake and i would throw at them as they fought the fish like pro's. Ended the day with a whole bunch of salmon and i mean a bunch!! several salmon over 20" 6 nice fat rainbows, 4 typical winni lakers and one smallie that put the icing on the cake in the final moments. Those CT guys sure can fish!! Couldnt ask for a nicer day(except the humidity), flat calm, sunny and hot. Oh yeah and Fishy!!!! Nice to meet you guys and hope to see you back the next time your visiting the Granite State!! Tight Lines, Screamin Reels and Soaking Nets!! Captain Pat |
| The tables have turned again! Saturday, August 15, 2009
Back on the big pond today with "The Kipperman Crew"! Headed to the isles around 6am and it was on!! Filled the livewell in no time in the same exact spot as yesterday!! What a turn around, this ocean is crazy!!! got to the river nice and early did a few trricks and boated several fish!! Ask Jeff( the team leader) about the one that got away in the live well and i will leave that story to him. Cut thge day short when the starboard engine wouldn't start so we headed out on our 90min journey back to the dock. Sorry about that guys!! It ended up being a bad connection somewhere that had come loose over time. I will make it up to you and get that full trip for those october cod!!! Tight lines and screamin reels!! Capt Pat |
| We got the blue's! Friday, August 14, 2009
Hit the salt again today with Mark, Sandy, Jessica and Chelsea. They found out just how fast the fishing can turn day to day down on the big pond. Bait was spotty but managed to get enough to get the ball rollin in the merrimack. The stripers were also spotty since the blues had moved in and chased them out of the river. We managed to pick up a few keepers and several schoolies throughout they day. Ocean was flat as a pancake and made for a nice ride up the coast back to the dock. Couldn't ask for a better day to be on the water with friends! Tight Lines and Screamin Reels!! Until next time!! Have fun back at school girls!! Captain Pat |
| Holy Cows!!!!! Wednesday, August 12, 2009
Hit the salt today with Richard, Jan and Paul. Headed out to the isles to get macks at 6 this morning to find spotty pods of bait but enough to get us back into the river. Dropped lines for the cows at 9am and it was game on!! Boated many fish today but started out with a bang with a 47" cow striper weighing 38lbs!! Following in a close second was a 45" striper tipping the scales at 34lbs!! What a couple of nice fish!!! All day we boated quality fish but to round out the top 6 we had a 41", 40" 39" and 38". There is no doubt that this crew went home with sore arms today!!! Cant wait to do it again! See you soon, Tight Lines. Screamin Reels and Soaking Nets!!! Captain Pat |
| Salmon Sunrise Wednesday, July 29, 2009
Hazy, hot and humid this am on winni with steve and melissa from MA. They met me at West Alton Marina at 4:30 am and we headed right out and got lines in the water by 10 to 5. It didn't take long for the rods to start poppin with a million salmon under the boat acording to the Northstar sonar. Flies were the trick this am as we boated in excess of 6 salmon, the largest being almost 23in in lengh and tipping the scales close to 4lbs. That monster was caught by melissa after steve unknowingly took two fish in a row! As i told Steve its carma steve carma!! Nice rainbow was also boated by melissa and several lakers. Steve caught many fish himself but he definately got out fished today!! The bite shut down arond 9:30am and then it was slow picking for the rest of the trip but nothing beats the excitement we had first light. In the end it was a great day and caught a good variety of species and sizes. Hope to see you guys soon!! Tight Lines, Screamin Reels, and Soaking Nets! Captain Pat |
| The Tuesday Take Down! Tuesday, July 28, 2009
Fished Winni today with a couple guys from GA, Todd and Rick. Picked them up at the Weirs Town Docks at 5am sharp and headed to the "honey hole"! Things started slow then a few rod pops here and there but it was nothing like the past. All the Fronts that have been going through the region are totally messing things up! Picked up 3 quality salmon in the early am then it shut right off!! Had to work hard but we managed to round up a nice fat 4lb rainbow, 7 nice lakers, and 2 smallies. Lost a few fish here and there but the one that really made us feel down was the laker we hooked that about snapped the rod and spooled it, we fought the fish for about 3 min and it was over, a massive head pound by the fish bending the tip of the rod to the water and pulling on the drag and that was it, as always the one that got away!!!! That was a monster and if i had to guess by the rod action and the fight i'd say it might have pushed the scale around 8-9lbs!! Don't worry i will find him again hopefully!! Thanks guys and fly safe!! Tight Lines, Screemin Reels and Soaking Nets, Captain Pat |
| Sunday Salmon Monday, July 27, 2009
Fished winni today with Ryan and Chris from CT. What a couple of cool guys! Had a blast with them on the boat. Fishing started out HOTT with the second rod in the water going off in ryans hands before it was all the way out. Not 2 min it was on again! Doubles!! Ryan boated a nice 19" salmon and chris landed one just a tad bigger at 20", nice fat quality fish. Boated a few white perch and a couple smallies throughout the day and picked away at the lakers landing five or so. The "Big Ones" got away from both the guys as we did lose a few hogs. ryan ended up taking the lead for points and the prize of nothing when he landed a beautiful 21" salmon, sorry chris but it was game over! They had a blast until it was over and knew that they had to take the girls shopping!! All Flies and lures supplied by AJ's Bait and Tackle in Meredith NH! Hope you guys got a chance to check out the store and I will see you guys back next year!! Tight Lines, Screamin Reels and Soaking Nets!!! Captain Pat |
| The Lake is turning!! Saturday, July 25, 2009
Fished winni today with Alan Nute(AJ's Bait and Tackle) and Ed(Special Ed). Left the dock at 4:30am to a flat calm lake, I mean not even a ripple!!! As we headed to the spot down came the rain and the wind. The rain lasted til about 7:30 and then it was done, just a little salmon chop on the water. Lines were in by 5am and the first fish was on by 5:45. Steady rod poppin after that. All in all great day on the water and ended up boating 6 salmon and 9 lakers and of course there was the few that got away but with the fights we had today they deserved it!! See you on the water tomorrow!! Tight Lines and Screamin Reels!!! Captain Pat |
| a little salmon slow down Sunday, July 19, 2009
Fished Winni today for the first time since the derby due to the saltwater being soo hot! Had Kevin, Travis, Adam on board from lebanon NH, what a great group of guys! Started real slow for the first 2 hours with only Travis whoping 1.5lb white perch! Finally enough was enough, Talked to cody(Kool-Aid) and he gave some info and basically said we were in the wrong spot they were hitting them hard up north, so we moved north. Got all the lines back in after the move and thats when they started poppin! Lost 2 hogs right off the bat!! after that we put a couple fish in the boat nothing real big just average Winni salmon and lakers. All in all had a great day, sunny, warm, good company, and fishing what more could you ask for!! See youi in september for the bite!! Tight Lines and Screamin Reels!! Capt Pat |
| Fog anybody? Saturday, July 18, 2009
Fished the salt today with the crucetti crew, mike, nate, zack, and alex. Seas were great but due to the dense....dense fog the fishing was terrible!!! Took us 2 hours to catch 8 pieces of bait! When the fog is that bad its hard to move around too much with all the other boats since you cant see anything. Finally got back to the mouth and the drifts started out good with an immediate hook up it was a nice 34" boated by mike. Everyone caught at least 1 striper while drifting then to try trolling which really didn't work again since the fog got thicker. At the end of the day we played rescue to a small boat that took several waves over the stern(the back), had to call the Coast Guard give them the position and wait til they arrived on scene all persons aboard the vessel were ok and luckily they got enough water out in time to stay afloat. All in all we didn't have the worst day after all, they did. See you guys back in august!! Tight Lines and Screaming Reels!!

| Its Tuna Time!!! Saturday, July 11, 2009
Today was the first day of trolling for tuna for the 2009 season. Left the dock at Rye Harbor at 5:30 this am with my two fishing buddies on board, "Charlies Charters" and "Special Ed".Seas were 1-3ft in the am and picked up to 4-6' by 10am. Got to one of my favorite spots to find tuna busting all over and bait that you could walk on!! What a way to start. Ended up trolling til 10 and heading in due to the seas and wind. Couldn't get any tuna to "take the bait" its stil early in the season, always next time!
Tight Lines, Captain Pat |
| Another Phenomenal Day! Friday, July 10, 2009
What a beautiful day on the ocean we had today. The sun was out which was a thing i think we had all forgotten about. Had Bobby, John, David, Tyler for the trip and Cody as the acting mate for the day. Boated a ton of mackerel for bait this am and were fishing the mouth of the river by 7am. Many stripers caught with alot of action throughout the day. Bobby Had the pool with his 42" striper right off the bat and held it til the last 5min of the day when he got knocked out by his own son john with a 46" striper. Boated 4 fish over 40" and many around 36". In conclusion we boated arond 30 stripers, 1 blue fish and over a hundred macks. Great job guys!!! Tight Lines, Captain Pat |

The bikes roll into the NH Lakes Region on Father's Day Weekend but anglers roll out...To Lake Champlain. We're proud to announce that the 28th Annual Lake Champlain International Fishing Derby was won by TEAM ROOF RAFTA. Alan Nute of AJ's Bait & Tackle in Meredith sealed the deal with a spectacular 9.5 pound salmon.

| Late May Stripers Saturday, May 30, 2009
We took to the Ocean today in search of Stripers and they weren't hard to find. Spent the morning filling the live well with mackeral then cruised to the mouth of the Merrimack River. Put four lines in the water and it was game on! Three fish on within moments. It was the only three on event of the day but what a way to kick off Striper Season. We boated upwards of thirty fish many of which were keepers. |
| Fourth Place in the Winnie Derby Tuesday, May 19, 2009
Every once in a while the Captain gets to play and this was one of those weekends. I blocked out Derby Weekend for a little personal time and I'm glad I did. I took Fourth Place in the Derby with a 22.75" Salmon that weighed in at 3.34 pounds.

| Ice Out / Boat In Sunday, April 05, 2009
Ok so the ice isn't out yet but...the boat touched the water today as we get ready for a fantastic 2009 season. The vessel has been de-winterized, we're all cleaned up, spring maintenance is done, and except for a few administrative issues (have I ever mentioned that I hate paperwork!) we're ready to go. |

Fished til 1pm then decided to head back to the dock for lunch and head to a different tackle shop to find more flies. who would have thought that 1 was fish would do so much to a couple of guys on a boat. we were like 2 kids in the candy store, smiles from ear to ear!!! | second legg of day 3 Wednesday, September 02, 2009
left the dock at 3:30pm for the evening run. fished new flies and flashers that we purchesed and stil nothing until 5:30pm when again the "Hammer Fly" hooked up again!
